Girl's suite in a villa on Palm Jumeirah

A child's room has a short life if it is designed around a cartoon. This one is designed around a colour and a shape: powder pink and the arch.

The wardrobe wall is built in from floor to ceiling. Pale grey frames hold arched door panels in pink, and the handles carry coral silk tassels that can be changed in a minute when tastes change. A transparent bubble chair on a chrome base takes the place by the window, and a cloud-shaped light floats on the ceiling between black magnetic tracks.

The wall behind the bed is upholstered in vertical channels of blush velvet from the floor to the ceiling, so there is no hard surface anywhere near the pillow. A slim glass tube pendant hangs beside it over a marble-topped table on a brass stem. The floor is oak herringbone.

In the bathroom, slim vertical tiles with an iridescent glaze shift from pink to lilac to gold as you move. The vanity is pink lacquer with framed drawers and crystal knobs under a travertine top, and the niche and the mirror are backlit.
