Apartment on Bluewaters Island

The brief was a home that feels like a deep breath after the city. There is no accent colour here at all. The interest comes from texture: plaster with a soft cloudy finish on the walls, floor-to-ceiling curtains in heavy linen, oak parquet laid in short staves.

The dining area is the centre of the apartment. A round table on a clustered dark timber base stands under a pendant made of hundreds of fine bent rods, light enough to sway in the air from the air conditioning. The chairs combine a boucle seat with a bentwood arm that invites the hand.

The wardrobe fronts are finished in a linen-textured laminate, and instead of handles they have a routed arch-shaped grip, painted dark inside. A console in unfilled travertine holds hammered metal vessels. Relief panels in plaster and rope, framed in oak, are the only art.

The kitchen is white and handleless with a waterfall island. The bedroom continues the same palette with a cane bench at the foot of the bed.
